Today students learned about a special project we do in our classroom. We collect our best published stories and keep them in a binder throughout the year! At the end of the year- we'll invite grown ups to come in and see how "Our Writing Has Grown" over the school year!
Students loved our walking field trip to Wilson Farm! We got the "behind the scenes" look into farm production and how they work to prevent soil erosion! Thank you to all our parent volunteers that kept us safe during our walk and on the tour!
Students began to study the affects of wind and water on the land. We used sand and soil castles to model the land. We dropped water to see the damage of water erosion and we blew through straws to model wind erosion! Students loved the hands- on experiment and worked very cooperatively together!
Students showed their appreciation by attending a Playground Ribbon Cutting Ceremony! Students love their new playground!
Students loved dressing up as their favorite book characters! We had a lot of fun today reading around the room and listening to guest readers!
As we wrapped up our first reading unit, students celebrated all they have learned! We left tips for future readers on our favorite books!
To kick off our first science unit, students thought about "What is a Scientist? Who is a Scientist? What do Scientists do?". We acknowledged how many students think that scientists are people who wear white lab coats and work in a lab with chemicals. But we learned that everyone can be a scientist and practice scientific skills!
Students worked together to make their stories even stronger! We used our Narrative Writing Checklist to give positive and specific compliments as well as offer constructive tips! Students loved reading each other stories and getting feedback! Students had so much fun exploring the different types of soil around Bowman! Thank you to all our parent volunteers for making it happen!
Students watched a video of a cookie monster eating Oreos! Students then had to figure out how many Oreos did the Cookie Monster eat? But the trick was they only got some pieces of information at a time! At first they only knew how many Oreos the Cookie Monster left in the container.... later they received more information- how many Oreos were in the box to begin! |
