Students explored different arrays and identified rows and columns within the array. Students then used skip counting or repeated addition to figure out how many in all!
Students brainstormed different ways to share books they love! We decided to write letters, book sneak peaks, bookmarks and scripts! Then student got together in partnership to swap some of their favorite books!
Students have continued to explore equal groups to understand multiplication. In this math activity, How Many Towers? students build towers and skip count or use repeated addition to figure out how many in all!
Our students got together with students in Ms. Barbacano's class to give thoughtful feedback about our realistic fiction stories! The students loved sharing their stories with students in a different class!
Students loved watching the Alphabet Rockers perform! Their songs share inspiring messages of activism and respect! For more information about the Alphabet Rockers, check out their website: http://alphabetrockers.com Students took a tour of the Taj Mahal through Google Earth during our India unit. We thought about what makes the Taj Mahal an important and unique landmark of India.
Students collected the big lessons from their stories. Then we grouped them to notice how authors usually write lessons that fit into 3 categories- taking care of yourself, working with others and taking care of the world!
Students explored equal groups to begin our multiplication study. Students watched a video of a person laying down flats to fill a square tile. Students then had to figure out how many flats were used to cover a larger square area. This encourages students to see that one square tile could fit 9 flats and the large square held 12 square tiles. Then students shared many different ways to figure out 9 x 12. Student made book tags to help other readers sneak peak their series! They wrote about important characters and how the books usually go!
