Students explored new geometry puzzles! These puzzles will be available throughout our new unit on shapes! Every unit- students explore new puzzles related to our unit focus. Puzzles are a great way for students to practice problem solving skills and flexible thinking!
We played "What's My Rule?" to discover polygons! Students sorted cards together to think which shapes followed my rules and which shapes did not! Then they compared all the shapes that to figure out my rules! Students learned that polygons are closed shapes with at least 3 sides that meet at vertices and angles!
Students observed warm and cold water to see how warm water releases water vapor that condenses at the top of the cup!
Students investigated different temperatures across the school yard! They learned about how snow and sun impact the temperature! Students hunted for 2-D and 3-D shapes in a variety of photographs! Students found cylinders, cones, triangles, squares, rectangles and more! We are starting our brief unit on Geometry to think about different ways to describes properties of shapes!
Students wrote opinion letters to friends and families about their favorite books! They learned to be persuasive by including reasons and using text evidence for examples! To celebrate, students mailed their letters! We decorated the envelopes and delivered them around the school!
Students built structures that could potentially delay or stop an ice cube from melting! Through this experiment students realized that insulted materials worked best! Thank you for sending in all the recyclable materials! Students loved building their structures! Team 13 wrote nominations for their favorite books and we picked our Sweet 16! We have been voting each week to see which book will be crowned the winner! Stay tuned for the Final Results!
Students brainstormed ways to melt an ice cube as fast as possible! There were given a list of materials (salt (!!), water, lime juice, baking soda, vinegar etc) and designed an experiment! We then compared our melting times and drew conclusions about melting!
