Students completed 3 different crafts! A hot air balloon craft based on the Dr. Seuss book Oh the Places You'll Go! . Students also painted frames for our poetry celebration and made keychains and bracelets! Thank you to all the parents that helped make this event a success! Students had a lot of fun!
Students measured pieces of strings using inches and centimeters. Students then organized their measurement data using a line plot.
To celebrate ending our unit on Fairytales & Folktales, students performed plays! Students took performance notes to help bring their characters to life! They thought about how the characters should act and sound using text evidence!
Students investigated what kinds of insects and pollinators live in Bowman's backyard? We have been thinking about how to write poems of significance, poems that have strong feelings and encourage others to see the world with a new light! Together second graders thought about a meaningful topic "activism" and wrote Be An Activist! We explored how poets use repetition to emphasis certain parts!
Students estimated how tall the man in the photograph is and used reasoning to prove their estimate! Through this activity, students learned that a foot is one ruler length which is 12 inches! Students also thought about the differences in yards and feet. Estimation is a great way for students building their reasoning skills! If you are interested in more estimation tasks- check out http://www.estimation180.com/days-1-20.html for more activities!
Students matched pollinators with flowers! Students realized that pollinators' have specific body parts that help pollinate different kinds of flowers!
